Michael Garman Honors Local Hero, Michael “Pay-It-Forward” Martinez,

12-year-old Michael Martinez has decided to give up his own Christmas gifts this year in order to raise money to personally create and distribute over 4,000 holiday cards to soldiers, firefighters, law enforcement and other American heroes. He has sent over 700 cards to active-duty military serving in

Afghanistan

. As a show of support and gratitude, Tuesday, December 6 was officially declared “Michael’s Day” by Pueblo’s County Commissioner.

Michael Garman learned of this young man’s generosity and wanted to thank him personally. Young Martinez will be delivering additional cards to firefighters and police in Colorado Springs this weekend. On Saturday at 11:30am at The Michael Garman Museum & Gallery, Michael Garman will present an autographed sculpture to 12-year-old Michael "Pay-It-Forward" Martinez.

The Michael Garman Museum would like to gather additional gifts and expressions of thanks to be presented to Michael Martinez and his mother Anna Lynn Martinez this Saturday. Anyone who would like to acknowledge the generosity of this young man is encouraged to contact The Michael Garman Museum & Gallery or stop by this Saturday, Michael Garman's official Autograph Day.

The Historic District Merchants of Old Colorado City gathered November 11th to celebrate their first year anniversary! Everyone enjoyed the delicious food with a gathering of friends and new acquaintances. The cake pictured above was donated for the celebration by Gotta Love It Kitchen.

Nancy Stovall, our Director asked the Board to speak briefly and explain many of the accomplishments our group has made over the past year. Nancy has done a tremendous job as a very detailed lady! The Historic District Merchants have given away 5 Gift Baskets in 2010 valuing over $300.00 each. This year we have had many promotions for our retailers, have created the Customer Loyalty Card, a BRAND NEW OCCHD Shopping Guide for everyone in our area and an Emergency Calling Tree for everyone in our area and offered other numerous member benefits.

We really appreciate the representatives of the Old Colorado City History Center, below and the entire organization for letting us use their building for the evening!

THE HISTORIC DISTRICT MERCHANTS OF OLD COLORADO CITY had their 1st Annual "LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL" Sock Hop on Saturday night, August 14th. The event went well with Sunday's Event "The Good Times Car Show" where collector cars line the AVENUE.

Plenty of cars were on hand for the sock hop as well!

Jerry and Lynda were right at home on the dance floor!

Hoola Hoop Contests, Bubble Gum Blowing and Dance and Costume Contests....and lots of drawings too!

The Historic District Merchants of Old Colorado City donated prizes for drawings all throughout the evening. Their were trophies for best dancers and best costumes.

Badda Bing was the sponsor and donated this great lighted picture for one of the prizes. A Touch of Class Gift Shop donated the "singing bear".

Michelle from D n D Ranch Aroma Candles and other merchants and friends worked hard to organize this event.

Kenyon and Therese Jordon from the Westside Pioneer surprised us all with their dancing skills!

Our friends from Texas Roadhouse on 8th Street were a great hit with everyone!

Hoola Hoops were in abundance.....grab one and join in!

Friends like Pat and Andy from "Our Hearts Inn" enjoyed the view from the sidelines!

Dave and Nancy showed the rest of us just how much energy they had!

There were some incredible dancers - and trophies for them!

Badda Bing had what everyone needed for the event- perfect clothing for all sizes and lots of fun stuff! They are located in Old Town Plaza.

Dave Stovall was our fun Master of Ceremonies and HDM Director, Nancy Stovall assisted him during the evening!
